Latest version of VW hatchback named World Car of the Year
The Volkswagen Golf MkVI has been awarded the 2009 World Car of the Year title. The WCOTY jury consists of 59 eminent motoring writers from 25 countries.

Refrigerators on wheels? Cool, say the kids
There was a time when the aimless youth of our nation lusted after long, sleek vehicles with gigantic V8's and tail fins. Today's version of aimless youth appears to want boxes on wheels, and the uglier the better. Ex. the Kia Soul and the Nissan Cube. They're rational, flexible, economical with more power in the amplifier than under the hood.

The Volt is due in dealer showrooms by the end of next year, which is itself a show of optimism about GM's future. But there's a problem: sales of existing hybrids have been plummeting for months because the price of gasoline has dropped. If that consumer attitude holds, it could mean that GM will be bringing out the right car at the wrong time.
